Biography

Stacey V. Lewis, SPHR, IPMA-CP, is the Director of the Human Resources Services Division of the Human Resources & Team Development Bureau at the Port of Long Beach, California. She began her Port career in January 2010 as Assistant Director and was named Director in July 2017 by the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners, governing body for the Port of Long Beach.

The Human Resources Services Director oversees the development, application and interpretation of personnel policies and procedures as they apply to nearly 500 full-time Port employees. The division is responsible for managing employee compensation, benefits, special employee programs, recruiting and labor relations, among other functions.

Ms. Lewis also provides an authoritative source for management regarding departmental policies and procedures, federal, state and local law and case law relevant to human resources.

Ms. Lewis has more than 25 years of professional human resources experience, both in the public and private sectors. Before coming to the Port, Lewis established K. Kennedy and Associates LLC, in Long Beach, a human resources consulting company, serving as Chief Executive Officer and Principal Consultant (2007-2009).

Earlier in her career she worked with the City of Torrance, California, in the Civil Service Department, first as Senior Human Resources Analyst and Assistant City Negotiator (1998-2003) and then as Civil Service Manager (2003-2009).

Other California experience includes Manager of Recruitment and Employment services for Wherehouse Entertainment in Torrance, Human Resources Administrator for Ingram Book Distribution Company in Walnut, Employment Specialist for Guardsmark in Culver City, and Technical Recruiter for EDP Temps and Contracts in Los Angeles.

Ms. Lewis earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Organizational Development from University of the Pacific. She also holds professional certifications from Loyola Marymount University (Human Resources Management Certification), Senior Professional Human Resources Certification (SPHR) from HRCI and the International Personnel Management Association (Human Resources Certified Professional – IPMA-CP).

She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Southern California Personnel Management Association, and also affiliated with the Professionals in Human Resources Associations, the Society of Human Resources Management, the International Personnel Management Association for Human Resources, the Southern California Labor Relations Council, the California Public Employers Labor Relations Association and Leadership Long Beach.

She and her husband and their three children make their home in Long Beach, where she is serving a four-year term as Personnel Commissioner for the Long Beach Unified School District. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Long Beach Community Action Partnership, an alumna (Class of 2012) of Leadership Long Beach and the Parent Liaison for Youth Leadership Long Beach.

She is a popular “transformational” speaker, and her professional, relationship and parenting advice has been featured on several websites, in various publications and on TV shows including Parenting Magazine and The Rachael Ray Show.

For her many outstanding contributions to the Human Resources Division, Stacey Lewis was named 2014 Port of Long Beach Employee of the Year.
